Local Man Charged With Human Trafficking
Derrick Whitehurst, 34, charged with multiple incidents
Detectives with the Greenville Police Departments’ Special Investigations Unit completed a three month investigation in reference to Human Trafficking and the promotion of prostitution. On March 26, 2015, at approximately 4:40pm, members of the Greenville Police Department Gang Unit located 34-year-old Derrick Whitehurst at 105 Vance Street, in Greenville. He was taken into custody without incident. Detectives charged Whitehurst with recruiting and housing adult female victims for the purpose of sexual servitude.
Whitehurst is believed to have taken the victims to various hotels / motels in the Greenville, North Carolina area and multiple other states along the east coast. Whitehurst, of 521 Spring Forest Road, Apartment A, was charged with two counts of Human Trafficking and eight counts of promoting prostitution. He was booked in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $1 million dollar bond.
