A proposal to ban smoking in county parks was rejected by the Pitt County Commissioners on Monday by a 5-4 vote.  The Pitt County Board of Health had proposed a ban on the use of tobaccao in county and municipal parks.  The proposal was endorsed by Dr. John Morrow, the director of the Pitt County Health Director.

Voting against the ban were Commissioners Tom Coulson, Glen Webb, Mark Owens, Mary Williams and Charles Farley.  The commissioners voting for the ban on smoking were Beth Ward, Melvin McLawhorn, Jimmy Garris and David Hammond.
