GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina junior guard Terry Whisnant has opted to skip his senior season and pursue a professional career head coach Jeff Lebo announced Monday.

“While we are disappointed to see Terry leave, we understand his desire to do what’s best for him and his family,” Lebo said. “We wish him all the best in the future and thank him for his dedication to our program.”

Last season, Whisnant averaged 12.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game as one of only two players to start all 33 games. Whisnant ranked among the top-10 in The American in 3-point field goals made (2.3/4th), 3-point field goal percentage (.370/9th) and free throw percentage (.764/9th). He led the Pirates in minutes played (31.5 mpg) and 3-point field goals made (77), while ranking second in assists (60) and steals (31).

“This decision was very tough for me because of my teammates, who I like to call brothers,” Whisnant said. “Ultimately I’ve decided to forgo my senior year and pursue my dream of playing professional basketball at the next level. I’d like to thank coach Lebo and the entire coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to play in front of the Pirate Nation.”
